I Got Some Discus Fish!

So, I recently made an addition to my fish tank. Of course, as the title of the post suggests, they were discus fish. Now this was actually a big decision I had to make because it required me to change up my tank setup a bit as discus are finicky creatures. Had to give some fish away to a friend as they no long could live under the new conditions of my tank. That was kind of sad but necessary if I wanted to incorporate my new fishy pals.

Anyway, like I said it was a big decision to add the discus fish to my aquarium. They’re quite picky when it comes to their living conditions and I highly recommend you read about discus fish care, which should provide some good tips. You can also (more…)

The Choice: Freshwater or Saltwater

There are millions of different environments out there in the wild and with it millions of different species of fish to go with it. This kind of variety is very hard to represent in such a small space as a home based aquarium. It is for this reason that having a culturally diverse fish tank is next to impossible. The variance is simply too high. This is in part because one living condition may be vital to one fish may have a negative impact on the health of another. In short, putting the wrong fish in the wrong living condition may well kill the fish. (more…)

Adding Fish to the Tank

Animals are very instinctual in the wild. They like to play, fight, mark territory and are actually overall very protective. No body like it when someone come into your home and tears things up for no reason and animals are very much in the same boat. Well, it turns out that fish are very much the same as the rest of the animal kingdom, despite not being wild and living in your aquarium. Even if they’ve been bred differently and have been in domestic watch, these traits still come out. It’s simply a hardwired response for some breeds. (more…)
