Adding Fish to the Tank
Animals are very instinctual in the wild. They like to play, fight, mark territory and are actually overall very protective. No body like it when someone come into your home and tears things up for no reason and animals are very much in the same boat. Well, it turns out that fish are very much the same as the rest of the animal kingdom, despite not being wild and living in your aquarium. Even if they’ve been bred differently and have been in domestic watch, these traits still come out. It’s simply a hardwired response for some breeds.
Because of this fact, getting new tanks mates to add to the aquarium can be a time consuming matter. Some fish simply don’t play nicely with others. Often it is a territorial issue, which is a problem that cannot be fixed as the entire aquarium is generally considered one large territory. So it is essential to find fish that are compatible with each other before throwing them in the deathmatch arena that is your tank.
Be sure to check the new fish’s needs. If you have a warmer climate based aquarium, then placing a cold water fish really doesn’t make a lot of sense. Other water conditions such as PH also need to be taken into consideration before introducing new fish.
When you do finally add that new tike into the pool be sure to watch out for it for the next few days. Check for any aggressive behavior towards it that may indicate a bad match. Also watch the other fishes in the aquarium for any sickness or disease. Often time illness can be introduced by adding a foreign companion into the mix. Because many of the fish haven’t actually been in the wild, they are not immune and end up being very susceptible.
That’s all for now, be sure to be careful when adding new fishys into your aquarium, bad things may happen as a result.
