ECONOMIC JUSTICE

  • Increase minority business opportunities with state professional services and construction contracts.
  • Hire more contract compliance staff to help the state reach its MWBE goals.
  • Budget for third-party contract compliance services for all major state development and construction projects.
  • Creation of a Maryland MWBE Mentor/Mentee Protégé Law.
  • Funding for MWBE Innovation Centers.
  • Increase funding for technical assistance grants for minority businesses.
  • Racial equity and inclusion in the sports betting licensing process.
  • Unemployment insurance reform in processing, administering and distribution of claims.
  • Housing stabilization and eviction prevention, including assistance with rental utility costs (arrearage).
  • Closing the wealth gap by increasing economic mobility (changes in taxation, income equity, expanding prevailing wage, etc.).
  • Property tax relief for middle- and moderate-income families.
  • Combat mortgage lending and appraisal disparities. 

 EDUCATION

  • Support Increased Funding for Afterschool and Extended Day programs for students.
  • Expand student debt forgiveness for Maryland residents.
  • Increase funding for early childhood education.
  • MSDE must provide guidance to ensure that all students are supported with equipment (computers) and tools (tutoring, PPE, etc.) for successful learning.
  • Ensure broadband access for low-income families.
  • Culturally responsive K-12 curriculum that will provide education on race and bias in a manner that leads to an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice and racism.

HEALTHCARE

  • Increase funding for Community Health Centers.
  • Create racial health disparities strike force to collect data, review and recommend efforts to eliminate health disparities in the Black and Latino community.
  • Allocate funding for Black maternal health and eliminate maternal deaths.
  • Create and fund Health Equity Resource Communities to reduce health inequities using grants and tax incentives in areas with poor health outcomes that directly correlate to health inequities.
  • Expand prescription drug benefits for seniors and the elderly.

 CRIMINAL JUSTICE

  • Creation of SNUG, which is GUNS spelled backwards, to fund a statewide network of violence disruptors to combat violence.
  • Increase funding for GED resources in state prisons and county jails to help reduce recidivism rates.
  • Provide more state funding for fraternities and sororities and professional organizations to mentor at-risk youth during the school year and the summer.
  • Require skills training and substance education for all inmates.
  • Launch statewide drug use prevention campaign.

 ENVIRONMENT

  • Allocate state funding for clean transportation grants for minority transportation businesses and not for profits.
  • Allocate EV charging funding and grants to local communities to eliminate racial disparities in access to EV infrastructure in communities of color.
  • Increase production of energy from renewable energy sources.
  • Increase quality local food production through urban farming and local distribution.
  • Increase funding for litter prevention and reduce regional disparities for state road and highway repairs and maintenance of grass and removal of debris. 
  • Equitable implementation of state energy and environmental programs, policies and incentives for businesses and individuals.
